"Happy Moon" Lantern Festival at Tung Chung Promenade

In the coming Mid-Autumn Festival, the Sustainable Lantau Office (SLO) of the Civil Engineering and Development Department and the Islands District Office will bring 5-m giant "Happy Moon" and "Twin Rabbits" to the Tung Chung East Promenade to celebrate the Festival with citizens together. The 400-m promenade, fully opened early this year, will be transformed into an energetic and joyful place with nearly 3000 lanterns for people to visit during the Festival.

The "Islands District Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival cum Celebration of the National Day" will be presented to the public on Mid-Autumn Festival Day and the following day (29 and 30 September). Members of the public are welcome to join.

The SLO will also organise the "Happy Moon" Lantern Festival at Tung Chung Promenade Photo Competition with DCFever.com for citizens to capture the enchanting scenery and joyful moments of the Festival. For details, please click here (Chinese only).*

To enhance public understanding of the works of SLO, the opening hours of Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre (CLC) will also be extended during the Lantern Festival for the public to visit freely and prior reservation is not required. Limited-time festive souvenirs are also available at the venue. Please refer to below for details:

*Update: Since the Observatory has issued the Standby Signal, No. 1 on 4 October evening, the "Happy Moon" Lantern Festival at Tung Chung Promenade has ended early on October 4 at 10 p.m. for safety reasons. The submission deadline of the photo competition remains unchanged.

Extended Opening Hours of Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre

*Update: Since the Observatory has issued the Standby Signal, No. 1 on 4 October evening, the "Happy Moon" Lantern Festival at Tung Chung Promenade has ended early on October 4 at 10 p.m. for safety reasons. The Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre will resume its normal operating hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Redeem a limited-time festive souvenir at Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre Extension (pink-coloured building)after following the Facebook or Instagram of Sustainable Lantau and showing it to the staff during the Festival (Souvenir is available on a first-come-first-served basis while stocks lasts).

Sustainable Features Game

A number of sustainable features is installed at the Tung Chung East Promenade. Visitors can redeem a souvenir at Tung Chung Community Liaison Centre Extension (pink-coloured building) after taking photo of any of the above sustainable features and sharing it on their social media platform* during the Festival (Souvenir is available on a first-come-first-served basis, while stocks last).

*Upload the photo on Facebook or Instagram and tag "Sustainable Lantau" for Facebook or "ourlantau" for Instagram to redeem a souvenir.

Join Our Guided Tour to Get a Special Gift

Visitors can know more about the development projects and conservation works/ initiatives of SLO as well as the nature, culture and history in Lantau at CLC. Visitors who registered for guided tour during the Festival may get a special gift. Please click the below links for registration:

Remarks
  1. Free admission
  2. Temporary crowd control measures will be arranged when there is a large number of visitors. Visitors are advised to follow the instructions of on-site staff.
  3. No naked-flame lanterns, alcoholic drinks, aerosol spray and metallic balloons or bottles is allowed.
Arrangements under inclement weather conditions
  1. The SLO will decide to continue or suspend the Lantern Festival depending on the weather or the actual situation of the promenade.
  2. Under the following inclement weather conditions, "Happy Moon" Lantern Festival at Tung Chung Promenade will be suspended:
    1. If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 or above is in force; or Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued.
    2. If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 or above is cancelled, the Lantern Festival may be re-opened within 3 days as conditions allow. The exact reopening date will be announced on the SLO's website.
  3. Under the following inclement weather conditions, "Islands District Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival cum Celebration of the National Day" will be cancelled:
    1. If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 or above; or Red / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued within 4 hours before the programme begins.
    2. If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No.3 or above; or Red / Black Rainstorm Warning Signal is issued, all programmes already in progress will be cancelled.
