The Government announced in the 2021-22 budget to set aside $500 million to carry out enhancement works for country parks facilities, with a view to enriching the leisure experience and enjoyment of the public and visitors. A well-equipped, easily accessible and strategically located toilet is essential in serving country park visitors and keeping environmental hygiene in the countryside.
Pak Kung Au is a popular start or end point for hiking, where the existing portable toilet cannot cope with the high demand for toilet service from visitors, especially in the peak hiking season. To this end, the Sustainable Lantau Office of Civil Engineering and Development Department has collaborated with Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to construct a new sanitary facility with associated hiking supporting facilities at Pak Kung Au, Lantau.
Scope of Works
- Demolition of existing barbeque site and provision of new hiking supporting facilities;
- Construction of a new public toilet with wastewater treatment system and rainwater harvesting system; and
- Landscaping and ancillary works.
Programme
Construction works commenced in January 2024 for completion in 24 months.
